Cancer campaign focused on supporting Bassetlaw’s rural residents
Farmers across Bassetlaw are among the communities targeted with cancer prevention messages in a series of campaigns throughout the summer and into autumn.
Focus on Farmers has a dedicated website, Facebook page and Instagram account with information and advice on good mental health and physical wellbeing not only for farmers, but also rural residents who live more remotely in Bassetlaw villages with more limited access to services.
The project team visited several country events including the Nottinghamshire Show and well-attended Young Farmers meetings to spread the word about cancer awareness and how to access support and screening.
Tractor-shaped air fresheners for vehicles, designed and funded by the Rotary Club of Retford were distributed at events. They carry a QR code providing direct access to online support services, ensuring farmers can easily find help when needed.
Focus on Farmers is just one of several campaigns launched in the summer and made possible through funding and collaboration between several agencies. These include the SYB Cancer Alliance, Bassetlaw Place-Based Partnership and the area’s Primary Care Network and Community and Voluntary Services.
Head of Health Inequalities at the Place-Based Partnership, Helen Azar, said: “Through ongoing communication and engagement, we aim to ensure that no one in the agricultural community faces challenges alone.”
