If you’re aged between 55 and 74, smoke or used to smoke, and you are registered with a GP in South Yorkshire or Bassetlaw, you’ll get a letter inviting you for a free lung cancer screening test.
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and, as there are often no symptoms until a much later stage, screening is the best way to find it early when there are more treatment options available.
Since this screening programme launched across our region in 2021, 75% of lung cancers found have been at an early stage – and most of these have been cured.
To help you understand what to expect when you’re invited for lung cancer screening, the SYB Cancer Alliance, as part of the Shows Up strategy, has produced an informative video that walks you through what happens step-by-step.
From receiving a letter, to attending a non-invasive scan appointment and beyond, the video explains everything you need to know.
