The Peace of Mind initiative

The South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Shows Up initiative, Peace of Mind, is here to raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of cancer, and to encourage us and each other to see our GP if we feel something isn’t right.

While many early symptoms of cancer are common and may be linked to other conditions, this campaign aims to normalise seeking medical advice as soon as possible. Taking action and showing up for your ‘Peace of Mind’ could make all the difference.

If it is cancer, discovering it early, when it isn’t too large and hasn’t spread, improves the chances of successful treatment – detecting cancer early helps save lives.

The top five cancers that are diagnosed at a late stage, or have a high number of cases, in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw are ovarian cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, oesophageal cancer and womb cancer.

Although some forms of cancer do not have symptoms, which is why screening is so important, beneath are resources that highlight the different signs and symptoms within common cancer groups to share with others and start conversations.
